Emergency Department - When You Arrive
Arrival:
When you arrive at the hospital, please proceed to the Emergency Department entrance marked in the overhead photo by the red arrow. Paid parking is available by the front entrance, marked by the blue arrow, and in the CMH parking lot on Oliver Road. Limited on-street parking is also available. Green arrow marks the accessible entrance. (ED entrance is also accessible)

Triage:
All persons entering the Emergency Department are required to wear a mask. Upon arrival, proceed through the Emergency Department doors; the triage area will be to your left. Here you will be greeted by a triage nurse who ensures patients are taken care of according to the severity of their illness or injury.
Patients in the ED are seen by a physician in order of priority based on the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS). The scale ranges from conditions that are life-threatening to non-urgent conditions for which care can be safely delayed.

To help your assessment proceed as efficiently as possible, please explain the reason for your visit and share any allergies or medications you are taking. The nurse will check your temperature, pulse, and blood pressure. After triage, you may be taken directly into the Emergency Department or asked to register and wait in the waiting room.
Our Team:
An Emergency physician is on duty at all times. Care may also be provided by physician-supervised medical students, residents (under supervision), and physician assistants. Residents have completed medical school and continue their training under supervision. Our physicians and nurses are supported by clerks, pharmacists, and volunteers.
Will There Be a Wait?
Yes. While our average Emergency Department wait times are below the national average, some waiting should be expected. Patients with the most serious conditions are seen first, even if they arrive after others. This is why everyone is assessed by a triage nurse as soon as possible.
We appreciate your patience if you are required to wait. If your condition changes or you have concerns while waiting, please notify the triage nurse immediately.
