Years of Service Awards

Every year, we honour staff who reach incredible milestones in their career journey with CMH. At 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 years of service, employees are celebrated with a certificate and gift. And for those extraordinary team members who go beyond 40 years? We celebrate them every single year after that, because their impact never stops.

Our annual Values Awards shine a spotlight on staff who bring our hospital’s core values to life in inspiring ways. Nominated by their peers, these awards recognize excellence, compassion, teamwork, and innovation.

Compassion – Marie Reid Bursary “Sunshine Award” (Be Our Best)

This award celebrates individuals who brighten the hospital with optimism, compassion, and dedication. The recipient demonstrates a genuine commitment to CMH’s purpose, promise, and values by uplifting peers, patients, and visitors alike. With open and honest relationships, leadership qualities, and a supportive, holistic approach, they enrich the lives of everyone around them and embody the spirit of “being our best.”

2025 Winner: Charlotte Bourne is this year’s ray of sunshine. With her warm smile, calm presence, and uplifting spirit, Charlotte brightens the DI/Lab front desk and everyone around her. She brings compassion and positivity to every patient, peer, and process she touches.


Learning & Innovation Award (Create Possibilities)

The Learning & Innovation Award recognizes a trailblazer who brings fresh thinking to CMH. This award honours staff who approach challenges in new ways, share ideas and practices that others can learn from, and take initiative to elevate care and service. Whether through innovative solutions or continuous improvement, recipients demonstrate how creativity and determination create possibilities for our hospital community.

2025 Winner: Darlene Milne leads the way in growth and improvement. From championing POCT (Point of Care Testing) training to sharing EPIC workflow tips and chairing NIPPAC, Darlene doesn’t just support innovation, she drives it. Her leadership makes learning part of everyday life at CMH.


Excellence in Quality & Leadership Award (Learn & Grow)

This award is given to someone who goes above and beyond in leading with vision, skill, and impact. Recipients demonstrate the ability to take charge of projects or situations in ways that improve quality across CMH. They provide guidance, direction, and inspiration to others, helping teams achieve goals and fostering a culture of growth and learning.

2025 Winner: Wendy Cross has been a pillar of strength and leadership as CMH’s dedicated Respiratory Therapist. From 24/7 on-call coverage to mentoring students and leading committees, Wendy sets the bar high for care, teamwork, and quality. Her impact resonates throughout the ED and Inpatient Unit.


Group Achievement – Dr. Thomas Hackett Award (Better Together)

The Dr. Thomas Hackett Group Achievement Award celebrates teams who embody the power of working “better together.” This award recognizes groups that demonstrate strong collaboration, clear goals, and measurable results. By focusing on service that is truly client-centred, these teams achieve outcomes that make a lasting difference for our hospital and community.

2025 Winner: Our incredible CMH Volunteers earned this year’s group award. Their teamwork, kindness, and tireless commitment make CMH feel like home. Whether welcoming visitors or lending a hand behind the scenes, they embody “Better Together” in every sense.

Respectful Workplace Award (Act Responsibly)

This award honours individuals who create a respectful, supportive environment for everyone at CMH. Recipients consistently demonstrate empathy, sound communication, and fairness, even in challenging situations. They lead by example, treating others with dignity and care, and showing what it means to act responsibly in every interaction.

2025 Winner: Heather McColman exemplifies respect and empathy in action. From reimagining group therapy programs to mentoring students and creating collaborative spaces, Heather fosters dignity and care in every interaction, helping to shape a healthier, more respectful workplace for all.


Dr. Bob Henderson Award for Physician Leadership

This award honours Dr. Henderson’s legacy by recognizing physicians who embody leadership, mentorship, and our hospital’s values.

The 2025 recipient, Dr. Mandana Goodarzi, is a steady, compassionate presence on the Inpatient Unit. She leads inclusive rounds, mentors learners at all levels, and advocates tirelessly for patients and colleagues. Collaborative, accountable, and always forward-thinking, Dr. Goodarzi raises the bar for care at CMH.

The Board of Directors also takes time to recognize teams and departments whose efforts go above and beyond the everyday. This recognition shines a spotlight on excellence, teamwork, and impact across our hospital, and highlights the many ways individuals and groups alike contribute to our success. These honours not only celebrate accomplishments but also inspire others across CMH to push boundaries and strive for even higher standards of care and service.

Recently, the Board honoured CMH’s Laboratory team for their remarkable achievement in the accreditation process, earning a near-perfect score. Their dedication, expertise, and commitment to quality reflect the very best of CMH, and their success is a source of pride for the entire organization.
