Jennifer Parliament always knew she wanted to help others. “I used to volunteer when I was younger, and the sense of fulfillment I got helping others always stuck with me. Then, when I finished university, I worked as a nurse’s aid and quickly realized health care was where I was meant to be.”
Joining CMH in March 2009, after a number of years at QHC, Jennifer found her calling in healthcare and quickly excelled in her role at CMH, at first serving on the Inpatient Unit before moving to the Operating Room. “I actually helped recruit a number of surgeons from Belleville to work in our OR before we transitioned to an endoscopy only program,” she noted. “At one time we had 5 of these surgeons coming on a regular basis.” Following the transition of the OR to the Endoscopy Program Jennifer returned to the IPU.
Jennifer's dedication extends beyond clinical duties; she played a crucial role in assisting infection control during accreditation and also helped to develop policies and procedures during the Ebola crisis in the mid 2010’s—policies and procedures that are still in place today should they ever be needed. Jennifer notes though, that above all, her greatest sense of pride comes from being a nurse. “What I am most proud of is that I am a nurse, period,” Jennifer said. “After 24 years, I still love nursing.”
When asked about the importance of International Women’s Day, Jennifer speaks highly of the strong women she has worked with and the pivotal role they have played in her career development. “These women instilled in me a deep appreciation for patient advocacy and the importance of supporting fellow nurses. They’re qualities I strive to emulate everyday.”
For Jennifer, CMH holds a special place in her heart due to its close-knit, community-oriented environment. “Unlike larger hospitals, CMHfosters a sense of camaraderie where every staff member is valued, and every patient receives personalized care.” It's this intimate connection that makes each day at CMH both rewarding and meaningful for Jennifer.
Beyond the hospital walls, Jennifer likes hiking, going for runs, enjoying a leisurely game of golf and spending time with her husband.
