Volunteer Services FAQs
1. What is the minimum commitment I have to make to the program?
Most of our volunteers commit to one day a week. Some do half a day in specific departments. The commitment is arranged according to the volunteer’s availability and the needs of the departments.
2. Can I volunteer wherever I wish?
We try our best to place volunteers in an area of their choice, suitability and interest. We definitely would not put someone in an area that they didn’t like or felt uncomfortable. Some volunteers switch with others occasionally for a change or to provide added assistance if needed.
3. Do I need to wear a uniform?
A volunteer vest and an ID badge is provided and is required while on duty for identification within the hospital.
4. Do I get free parking?
Registered volunteers are given free access to the parking lot while on duty.
5. I like to travel and sometimes go away for an extended period of time. Does that mean that I would not be permitted to volunteer?
Many of our volunteers go south in the winter or other holidays. We simply ask that you notify us in advance so we can ensure appropriate coverage in your absence. If you have to be away for a specific day, often volunteers will switch days amongst themselves.
