Campbellford Memorial Hospital Earns ‘Accredited with Exemplary Standing’ Status from Accreditation Canada

In 2013, Campbellford Memorial Hospital (CMH) earned ‘Accredited with Exemplary Standing’ status from Accreditation Canada, the highest designation attainable.

">Accreditation Canada is an independent, not for profit organization that conducts reviews of health organizations around the world and sets standards for safety and quality in health care.

Accreditation of Exemplary Standing is awarded to an organization that attains the highest level of performance, achieving excellence in meeting the requirements of the Accreditation program. In 2011, 968 Canadian organizations participated in the Accreditation process and just 30 percent of the participating organizations were granted exemplary status.

“To receive the highest award that Accreditation Canada provides is a testament to our team and their commitment to excellence, quality and safety”, said Brad Hilker, President & CEO.

A team of experienced leaders from other Canadian health care organizations visited CMH from September 9-12, 2013, talking with staff, physicians, patients, volunteers, community partners, management and CMH Board of Directors. They also followed the journey of patients through our hospital reviewing the quality and safety of each step along the way. CMH met 99.2 percent of the 1,324 standards that the team reviewed.

“The organization is commended for the excellent services it provides to the community”, states the report from Accreditation Canada. “There is a great deal of pride in the community for providing health care closer to home and sustaining services currently provided by the hospital”.

“The staff at CMH continually strives for excellence in all departments. The Board of Directors is extremely proud of our hospital for achieving the Exemplary Status designation”, stated Jill Stewart, Board Chair.

The process is an ongoing one. Organizations use the program to identify what they do well and where they could do better, and make improvements based on the results. Peer reviewers, called surveyors, visit the organization every four years to evaluate the extent to which it is meeting the standards, share their expertise, and make recommendations. CMH is scheduled to undergo their next review in 2017.
